HOW
Until mid 2018 I counselled.
Until further notice, I am writing. Mainly about wellbeing and prehab.
In my book I contrasted 'rehab' with 'prehab'.
We need rehab (aka psychotherapy, counselling, therapy, rehabilitation) when things get too tough to handle.
Prehab (short for prehabilitation) is about being proactive, learning more about ourselves before things get out of hand.
I write from experience - my own and others'.
My approach to therapy is one of 'OPEN MYND'.
This is the framework I used in the book and one I have adapted in different settings (such as talks to solicitors, barristers, business and local authority members, teachers, and in a recent wellbeing project with long term unemployed).
'OPEN' - for those who find that new opportunities in life seem closed, or a sense of optimism lost. Helping us to think about ourselves, our communities and our potential in new, creative and imaginative ways.
And to be open to the possibilities and challenges of change.
'MYND' stands for Me, You and Do.
ME- being mindful. Thinking about how to cope better with stress and things that hold us back from realising our potential.
YOU- mind-mindedness and interpersonal relationships.
DO- being aware of stuff that has happened, including changes, losses and difficulties in the past that may have led to where we are now.
And what we can do to change things.

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy is my professional body. When I write vignettes or examples from life I follow the BACP guidelines for case studies, namely that they are 'permissioned, disguised, adapted or composites, to protect confidentiality'. (I didn't know that 'to permission' was a verb, nor did my spellcheck, but the meaning's clear.)
